1957. Having establishing its mastery of the skies, Breitling set off to conquer the seas by launching the Superocean, a professional diver’s watch that also gained a following among the first scuba diving enthusiasts. Some 50 years later, under the “Héritage” banner, this same design still holds a special place among Breitling’s “instruments for professionals”.

In celebrating its 125th anniversary, Breitling has chosen to issue a limited series of this great classic. Like the original model, this Superocean Héritage Chronographe carries the historical Breitling signature topped by the stylized letter B in 18-carat gold, and also features the same luminescent triangular hour hand that already enabled unequivocal read-off even in the darkness prevailing at great depths. Another characteristic detail lies in the dial with its two counters arranged horizontally at 9 and 3 o’clock, available in Volcano black, Stratus silver and Gun blue versions and produced in limited series of 1,000 in each of these shades.

The equally exclusive choice of wristbands comprises the Ocean Classic in woven steel reflecting the original bracelet and lending the watch its unique appearance; and the Ocean Racer rubber strap with its resolutely sporting style. The distinctive design of the Superocean Héritage Chronographe is matched by its technical performances. Its imposing steel case measuring 46 mm in diameter and water-resistant to 200 meters (660 feet) houses Breitling Caliber 23, a sturdy high-precision movement officially chronometer-certified by the COSC, as indeed are all Breitling movements.

A perfect fuselage
Ideally melding form and function has been Breitling’s consistent goal in developing its “instruments for professionals”. An exceptional motor
Endowed with an original and innovative architecture, Caliber B01 embodies all the wealth of experience gained by Breitling in its chronograph stronghold since 1884. The brand undeniably played a major role in the development of this type of instrument. When presenting the first wristworn chronographs in 1915, the founder’s son Gaston Breitling had the ingenious idea of creating a pushpiece to handle the three chronograph functions (start, stop and reset) that would be separate from the crown. This marked the birth of the first independent pushpiece. In 1923, he perfected this system by separating the “start/stop” functions controlled by the pushpiece at 2 o’clock from the “reset” function activated by the crown – a patented innovation that enabled the users to add up several consecutive times without needing to return the hands to zero. In 1934, Willy Breitling, representing the third generation of the family firm, set the finishing touch to the modern face of the chronograph by creating a second independent pushpiece reserved exclusively for resetting. In 1969, the firm rose to one of the greatest 20th century watchmaking challenges by launching the first selfwinding chronograph movement, the “Chrono-Matic” Caliber 11. The advent of Caliber B01 now marks an historic turning point that sees Breitling join the prestigious ranks of the rare watch companies to possess their very own mechanical chronograph movement. BREITLING for BENTLEY RAMPS UP THE POWER

BENTLEY MOTORS SPEED

As the new driving force in the Breitling for Bentley collection, the Bentley Motors Speed chronograph cultivates originality and exclusivity on all levels: through its sporting yet elegant appearance; its ultra-technical dial with three counters ringed in chromed steel; and its imposing bezel enhanced with a knurled finish inspired by the Bentley control buttons. The chronometer-certified Calibre 25B, entirely assembled within the Breitling Chronométrie workshops, also features the world-exclusive “30-second chronograph” mechanism. A worthy heir to a 1926 Breitling-patented invention, this amazing system is distinguished by a central hand performing a sweep of the dial in half a minute, instead of the conventional 60 seconds. It thus enables read-off to within 1/8th of a second. The Bentley Motors Speed chronograph is available in a steel version, as well as in a red gold limited series of 500, with a choice of metal bracelet or a leather, crocodile leather or rubber strap. The dials come in a fine selection of refined colours evoking the Bentley liveries.

BENTLEY MOTORS T SPEED

Designed for devotees of special editions, the Bentley Motors T Speed chronograph stands out thanks to its bezel with an original and dynamic engine-turned motif that plays with the light in a way reminiscent of Bentley dashboards.

The sporty, refined steel case subtly alternates between contrasting satin-brushed finishing on the top and polished surfaces on the side. Chronometer-certified, as indeed are all Breitling calibres, the mechanical movement has a “30-second chronograph” function identical to that of the Bentley Motors Speed model and enabling ultra-accurate short-time measurement. Moreover, the exclusive nature of this model is not confined to the face and heart of the watch. The caseback is also adorned with a raised engraving depicting three of Bentley’s most legendary models: the Speed 6, the R-type Continental and the Continental GT. Three cars which, like all Breitling for Bentley models, offer a perfect blend of style and performances.

BENTLEY 6.75 SPEED
Named after Bentley’s largest engine, the 6.75-litre model powering the luxurious Arnage models, the Bentley 6.75 Speed chronograph certainly lives up to its proud heritage. Its mechanical movement is assembled in the Breitling Chronométrie workshops with the same concern for precision and performance displayed by the British car-maker, as confirmed by the much coveted title of a COSC-certified chronometer. In addition to 30-minute and 12-hour chronograph counters and small seconds, the dial framed by a bezel with a knurled pattern features a “large aperture calendar” based on a system showing the date in a highly readable manner through two separate tens and units indicators. Breitling has also sprung a surprise by adorning the caseback with a powerful stamped décor; a five-spoke motif reflecting the characteristic design of the wheel rims on some of the finest British automobiles. In addition to the steel model, the Bentley 6.75 Speed chronograph is issued in a luxurious red gold limited series of 675.

VARIABLE TACHOMETER: A SPEED MEASURING INSTRUMENT
The Bentley Motors Speed, Bentley Motors T Speed and Bentley 6.75 Speed are all equipped with a “variable tachometer”, a world-exclusive Breitling invention. Inspired by the famous patented circular slide rule introduced by the brand in 1942, this system is based on two scales – one fixed, and the other mobile. When used in conjunction with the chronograph, it enables the user to measure average speed whatever the time elapsed, the distance covered or the speed reached. It has several significant advantages over conventional tachometers, which are restricted to observations based on a period of less than 60 seconds. The variable tachometer can also be used to perform many other calculations such as multiplications, divisions, rule of three operations, hourly production rates, hourly flows or consumption rates, and heartbeats/minute (pulsometer).

10 November 2008, Kuala Lumpur:  Breitling, a Swiss luxury timepiece brand that is synonymous with the world of aviation, together with Cortina Watch, Asia’s leading retailer of luxury timepieces, launched the new Breitling Chrono-matic 49 by staging its first ever “aviation” party in Malaysia on the evening of 5th November 2008 at Zeta Bar, Hilton Kuala Lumpur.

More than 180 guests and media graced the event and witnessed the unveiling of Breitling’s latest Chrono-matic 49, launched for the first time in Malaysia since it was introduced in BaselWorld 2008. It was a star-studded affair and an evening of sheer glamour as local celebrities such as Elaine Daly, Chermaine Poo and Xandria Ooi were in attendance.

Guests were treated to an array of canapés and beverages at KL’s trendiest hotspot, Zeta Bar, which was transformed into an “airport”, completed with a “runway”. The evening started with a warm welcome by emcee Sarah Lian, who proceeded to introduce a short video presentation by Breitling on its milestone since the day it commenced.

The evening continued with the launch gambit for the new Chrono-matic 49 which saw the ‘arrival’ of a mock-up mustang plane with its pilot Mr Teh Soon Kheng, General Manager of Cortina Watch Malaysia. Guests were given the opportunity to take a closer look at the timepieces while the models, dressed as pilots, mingled among them. To keep the momentum going, a special performance by a group of exotic pin-up girls got the excited crowd cheering.

The evening climaxed on a higher note as throngs of guests flocked the dance floor, moving and grooving to the sounds of Exit-T, a 7-piece band from Canada who belted several popular numbers. All in all, the event was a resounding success and was truly a night to remember.

5 NOVEMBER 2008: A tribute to a pioneer, a tribute to an era: in launching the Chrono-Matic 49, Breitling revives one of the most famous models in its history – and indeed of watch making history as a whole – in a entirely new way. Flashback to 1969, when Breitling creates the first self-winding chronograph movement. This major invention was to enable the development of a whole range of chronographs named Chrono-Matic, forerunners of the current vogue for extremely large-sized watches, and featuring an original and distinctive appearance.

Fast forward to 2008: the new 49 mm-diameter Chrono-Matic is inspired by the generous volumes of the original model and by its modern design with unmistakable Sixties and Seventies accents including taut, angular lines and geometrical rectilinear hands with a square base or arrow tip. The red-rimmed totalizers lend a technical touch, while the dial reflects the traditional configuration of the totalizers at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock. The signature reproduces the Breitling symbol used from the 1950s to the 1970s, with the brand name capped by an applied gold capital B.

In keeping with its consistently innovative momentum, Breitling has also revised several details in a decidedly contemporary spirit. The rotating pinion bezel driving the slide rule takes the form of a black rubber-molded steel construction. The new woven steel bracelet, designed specifically for this model, makes an unusual contrast with the pure lines of the case. In addition to the steel version, the Chrono-Matic 49 also comes in a red gold limited edition of 500. It is available with various dial colors, including magnificent motifs against black or bronze backgrounds created using the “épargne” method.

The Chrono-Matic 49 is powered by Caliber 14, a reliable and high-performance movement that is chronometer-certified, as indeed are all Breitling movements. A classic entirely in sync with its times – on land, at sea and in the air.
